RAC BCMS: Implementing Business Continuity Management System
Business Continuity Management (BCM) is a relatively new management discipline that has become increasingly important in connection with a rough environment in which organizations are currently finding themselves..
BCM is a management process supported by top management that identifies the impacts of potential losses in order to establish such procedures and environment, which ensure continuity and recovery of the key organization’s business processes and activities at acceptable predefined minimum levels in cases of disruptions or losses.
Management system approach to Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) is based on PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle. So for developing, implementing and improving the effectiveness of an organization’s BCMS is used the same PDCA approach within other modern management systems, such as ISMS, QMS, EMS and OHSAS. This approach is very effective for implementing an organization’s Integrated Management System (IMS).

By accepting the standard approach to BCM according to the requirements of BS 25999-2, an organization can offer its clients and consumers solid assurance that it will manage its business continuity in time of disruption.
Do not forget that business continuity management is about anticipating that things could possibly go wrong and taking planned and rehearsed steps to protect the business as well as the stakeholders’ interests. It is about maintaining their confidence in the management’s ability to cope with a crisis and to prevent disasters from taking place, by this way securing the brand, reputation and image of the organization’s physical infrastructure and personnel. BCM goes beyond recovery from a disaster (traditional DRP are only focused on the ICT disaster recovery) by establishing a culture which prevents failure and crisis.
